Book Review: The Compound Effect

The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy is probably the best book I’ve ever read. I’ve read it multiple times now and even listen to the audio book while I work. He has a way with words and really gets that fire inside of you lit. It’s an intriguing read, so you won’t want to stop, it usually takes me 2-3 days to read it.

Hardy starts off chapter one with introducing “the compound effect” which is an analogy that our daily choices compound over time to either work in our favor or against us, depending if they are positive or negative choices. So his whole point is nothing happens overnight, they are all small, choices we make daily, for example to exercise or not. If we choose not to, we’ll have to live with the compounded effect of being overweight. The second chapter goes into choices, just what I was talking about, first you make your choices and then your choices make you.

The third chapter is probably my favorite chapter in the book, it’s all about habits. Hardy talks about finding your “why”. Why do you want to reach a certain goal? Your why power has to be stronger than temptation to derail. This is a powerful chapter, that will help you take steps to break bad habits that are keeping you from living a life full of greatness.

Big Mo (momentum), is what the fourth chapter is all about. You need to work hard and make smart choices everyday, then Big Mo will come take over and good things will start flying your way. Next, Hardy talks about influences, who or what is influencing your mindset. Spending time with a mentor, everyday is an essential part of your success towards your goals. Even if it’s just reading a book they wrote. Getting inside of the minds of influential people is a great way to excel your mindset.

The Compound Effect was the first book I read, that really explained that I can reach my goals, I just need to shift my mindset to believe I can, and work towards them everyday. I recommend this book to everyone I know, it is a must read for everyone!
